#sydney REVIEW - We had a wonderful time at the opening night of @peterandthestarcatchertour last night at the @capitoltheatresydney - tears of laughter guaranteed for both adults and children! It was very cute to hear kids’ laughter during the show!
Peter and the Starcatcher is the untold story of Neverland, the prequel to Peter Pan and so much more! This all new production is a beautiful reminder to never stop believing or giving up on your dreams and to stop and admire the stars in the sky more often!
No spoilers, just a mention of the great cast which we really warmed to last night! It was our first time watching John Batchelor and Paul Capsis on stage and we will definitely keep an eye out for them as both actors brought a very strong presence on stage.
We thought Olivia Deeble and Otis Dhanji were perfectly casted for the role of the boy and Molly and the boy’s friends Prentiss and Ted brought extra laughs in the mix!
Pete Helliar and Colin Lane who played Smee and Black Stache, what can I say - the audience could not stop laughing at the funny banter, jokes, innuendos, current references, teen linguo and more! To say they were funny is an understatement - they truly kept us on our toes and the audience loved being part of the show too! We left very happy with the joy the whole cast brought to us in this inspiring story!
Miss thought it was a very clever show overall and loved the use of beautiful puppets by @deadpuppetsociety which kept our imagination going and brought so much beauty!
Peter and the Starcatcher is a very talented production, on for a very short time here in Sydney - closes this Sunday 9th of February - don’t miss the stars before they fly away! Ages recommendation 8 years + and some use of strobe effects, theatrical smoke & haze and some loud noises and flashing lights.

Peter and the Starcatcher, the smash hit Broadway production and winner of 5 Tony Awards, will have its Australian Premiere, touring nationally from 2024.
Originally developed by Disney Theatrical Group, written by Rick Elice (Jersey Boys, The Addams Family), with music by Wayne Barker, this all-new production is directed by David Morton (Holding Achilles, The Wider Earth). Peter and the Starcatcher is the untold story of Neverland. Before Neverland there was an island. Before Captain Hook, a moustachioed pirate.
Before Wendy, her mother Molly. Before Peter, a nameless orphan. Reimagined by Australia’s Dead Puppet Society, acclaimed for creating visually astounding worlds, this highly anticipated version of Peter and the Starcatcher blurs the lines between reality and fantasy, traversing oceans of mystical mermaids, and lands of curious creatures.
The Australian production features a star-studded ensemble cast including Otis Dhanji from blockbuster Aquaman and Netflix hit The Unlisted as Boy / Peter; one of Australia’s most recognisable comedy faces Colin Lane from duo Lano & Woodley as Black Stache; and television star Olivia Deeble, known for roles on Home and Away, More Than This and Secret Society of Second Born Royals, as Molly.
Also featuring in the Peter Pan prequel story is Ryan Gonzalez (Moulin Rouge! The Musical, In The Heights) as Fighting Prawn; Paul Capsis (La Cage aux Folles, Head On, The Rocky Horror Show) as Slank and Hawking Clam; Hugh Parker (The Office, The Family Law) as Captain Scott; Morgan Francis (Boy, Lost) as Prentiss; and Alison Whyte (Death of a Salesman, Groundhog Day The Musical, The Dressmaker) as Lord Aster.
Completing the company, which inhabits over 100 characters in this production full of fantasy and adventure, is Leon Cain and Benjin Maza, along with offstage covers James Haxby, Erika Naddei and Natasha Veselinovic, and on-stage musicians Annie Silva-McKnight, James Dobinson and Luke Volker.
Reimagined for Australian audiences, this highly anticipated version of Peter and the Starcatcher blurs the lines between reality and fantasy, traversing oceans of mystical mermaids and lands of curious creatures.
