Shadow Puppets with International theatre-maker Jumaadi
Learn how to draw and design your very own characters and backdrops! Using different paper cutting methods, cast your drawings into animated shadows using various light sources and surfaces.
In this specially designed workshop for the Sydney Opera House, internationally renowned theatre-makers and visual artist Jumaadi takes children and young people on a journey to make performances using household materials.
From storyboarding, paper puppet making and shadow play, this workshop will introduce kids to one of the oldest forms of theatre-making in the world - the traditional art of wayang kulit or shadow puppetry from Indonesia. Then end the day with a performance that the whole family will love!
Be inspired by the story of the Opera House and learn how to draw and design your very own characters and backdrops. You will learn different paper cutting methods to cast your drawings and paper cuts into animated shadows with various light sources onto different surfaces.

Age: Recommended for children ages 12 - 16.
On Wednesday 24 April 2024, the session between 10am - 12.30pm is is suitable for kids aged 12 -13. On Wednesday 24 April 2024, the session between 1.30pm - 4 pm is is suitable for kids aged 13 - 16.
This workshop is for children only. Parents and carers will drop off and pick up their children promptly at the workshop start and end times from the Centre for Creativity. Following booking, parents/carers will receive a supervision consent form to complete and return to the Opera House Learning Team. All materials provided.
