Surrounded by stunning beaches, lakes, national parks and lush hinterland, there is no wonder that Noosa and the Sunshine Coast are one of the most popular beachside holidays destinations in Australia.

We have been visiting Noosa every year since the poppets were one years old and each time we discover and explore new parts of this glorious part of the world.

Here are our TOP things to do, explore and eat when visiting the Sunshine Coast.

1. Australia Zoo

Home of the Crocodile Hunter, Australia Zoo is nestled on more than 70 acres of natural Australian bushland. With over 1,200 gorgeous native and exotic animals, a line up of free wildlife shows daily, interactive animal encounters and an action-packed 24-hour Wildlife Hospital, there is never a dull moment at Australia Zoo! 2. Eumundi Markets

Renowned for its locally made artisan treasures, there’s no other market quite like The Original Eumundi Markets. There is a perfect mix of arts and crafts, fashion and jewellery, homewares + food and produce. Be sure to check out the gorgeous Berkelouw Bookshop on the main street too.

3. The Ginger Factory

There is more to the iconic Ginger Factory than manufacturing the famous Buderim Ginger. It offers fun rides, fascinating tours, a unique retail precinct and café surrounded by beautiful sub-tropical garden. Read our full review here.

4. Playgrounds

No matter where we go on holidays, we always end up at a playground!

Lions Park, Noosa Heads - Tucked behind the Noosa Heads Bus Station, just back from Hastings Street - Lions Park is our favourite playground in Noosa. The equipment is better suited to little kids with several tunnels, slides, SUP boards and swings overlooking the river. Plus there is plenty of shade and seating, BBQ’s and public toilets close by.

RSL Memorial Park, Tewantin - This small playground close to the town centre is perfect for little climbers who will love using the climbing ropes to access the top of the tall mound before sliding down the double slide.

Lions Park, Noosaville - Ahoy, me hearties! Young scallywags will love exploring this awesome pirate-themed playground located next to the Noosa Yacht Club. With play equipment suitable for all ages and abilities, beach frontage (be sure to pack your togs and bucket & spade) + resident ducks and pelicans - this is a must visit.

Dick Caplick Park, Eumundi - No visit to the Eumundi Markets is complete without visiting the playground! Nestled underneath the large, shady fig trees this incredible playground features a timber fort with rickety suspension bridge, multi-coloured train (complete with carriages, tunnels and hidey holes), swings, see-saws, rocking animals, a giant spinning wheel and a huge climbing ball. If that wasn’t enough, in 2018 the playground underwent an expansion which included a new custom barbecue shelter, seating and an impressive tall climbing structure with rope nets, timber ladder and long slide.

Sound Park, Noosa Heads - A great park along Noosa Parade overlooking the river with plenty of natural shade.

Indoor - Looking for a wet weather option? Noosa Civic Shopping Centre in Noosaville has a small indoor playground for little ones under 5 or visit The Playroom at Noosa Leisure Centre for casual, play sessions.

5. Beaches

Noosa Main Beach, Noosa Heads - Literally a few steps away from Hastings Street, the always-popular Noosa Main Beach is perfect for families with gentle waves and surf lifesavers patrolling 365 days of the year. This is also a great place to take a surf lesson if you’re a beginner as the surf isn’t too large. Fun fact: Noosa Main Beach is one of only a few beaches along Australia's coastline that faces north.

Little Cove Beach, Noosa Heads - Tucked between Noosa Main Beach and Noosa National Park, Little Cove is a gorgeous secluded paradise, surrounded by lush greenery. Visit at high tide when the sand is covered and the cove transforms into a swimming pool or explore the rock pools and shallow waters at low tide. Another great spot for little kids, just be aware that the beach is not patrolled.

Sunshine Beach - Located on the southern side of Noosa National Park, this a quieter beach with a breathtaking 15 km of sandy coastline and stunning blue water

6. Noosa Ferry

Hop aboard a Noosa Ferry and discover the beautiful waterway and townships at your own pace. I highly recommend purchasing an ‘All Day Family Pass’ which allows you to hop on and off - at one of seven stops along the river - for the beach, restaurants, shops or a leisurely stroll. Enjoy the friendly skipper’s commentary highlighting Noosa’s points of interest, attractions, local history and wildlife.

7. Tewantin Spray Park
A toddler friendly spray park right, a few minutes stroll from the Marina and overlooking the Noosa River. Completely fenced with a soft fall surface and a number of water sprays to entertain the children. Picnic tables and chairs for the grown ups + public amenities right next door.

8. Eateries

Whether it’s fish and chips on the beach, smashed avocado for brunch, a romantic date night or burgers and beers - there is no denying that Noosa is a foodie’s paradise!

Coffee & Brunch - Little Cove Coffee (Noosaville), Clandestino (Noosavilla), Padre (Noosaville), The Drop (Noosa Junction), First Batch (Noosaville), Providore on Hastings (Noosa Heads), Sails (Noosa Heads), Depot (Noosaville) and Little Boaty (Noosaville). Don't forget to pack your reusable coffee cups!

Casual Dining (inc. Take Away) - Betty’s Burgers (Noosa Heads), El Capitano (Noosa Heads) for delicious pizza, Red Emperor & Noosa Boathouse (both Noosaville) for amazing fish and chips, Noosa Surf Club (Noosa Heads), Land & Sea Brewery (Noosaville) and Xalapa for the BEST tacos.

Restaurants - Locale (Noosa Heads), Bistro C (Noosa Heads), Sum Yung Guys (Sunshine Beach), Sails (Noosa Heads), Wasabi (Noosa Sound), Light Years (Noosa Heads), Bombetta (Noosa Junction) and Thomas Corner Eatery (Noosaville).

Ice Cream - For us it’s a tie between the much-loved Massimo's Gelateria and the newcomer Happy Pops (both Noosa Heads). It is also worth mentioning that Betty’s Burgers ado scrumptious concretes, which is a rich and creamy custard ice cream with a choice of yummy mix ins.

Supplies & Snacks - Providore on Hastings (Noosa Heads), Rick’s Artisan Pies & Sourdough (Noosaville), Prince’s SUPA IGA (Noosa Junction), Tanglewood Bakery (Noosa Heads), Belmondos Organic Market (Noosaville), The Source Bulk Foods (Noosa Junction) and Blended Health Bar for a healthy smoothie.

9. Bellingham Maze

Located just 10 minutes from Mooloolaba and featuring an incredible 80m x 80m living hedge maze, timber maze, rope maze, tyre maze, 18 hole mini golf course, outdoor games, garden cafe and puzzle shop, it’s no wonder that ‘The Maze’ has been loved by families since it first opened its doors over 20 years ago. 10. Scooters

Although we don't usually travel long distances when visiting Noosa, having the poppets scooters with us allows for instant fun and entertainment. Whether it’s cruising down Hasting Street, scootering along the boardwalk at the Main Beach or keeping them occupied when the weather is gloomy - they are a great way to keep little ones happy and release extra energy. Just don't forget to pack helmets!

11. National Park Walk

With its beautiful and iconic mixture of beach and forest, Noosa National Park is a natural gem you simply must visit. Undoubtedly the most popular walk in the park is the Coastal Walk. Starting at the parks main entrance and hugging close to the shoreline this walk takes in spectacular coastal scenery and some of the best beaches you will find anywhere in the world. Keep your eyes out for dolphins which are often seen swimming off the coast and koalas in the gumtrees along the boardwalk.

12. Noosa Farmers Market

Every Sunday, the Noosa Farmers Market is packed with local produce, beauty and health products made in the region, and an ever-changing list of street food vendors. Head down early on an empty stomach and choose from some of the best breakfast options you will find on the Sunshine Coast.

13. Holey Moley Golf Club & Strike Bowling
Bringing fun to the Big Top Shopping Centre in Maroochydore; Holey Moley Golf Club and Strike Bowling offer a unique mini golf, tenpin bowling, karaoke and bar experience like no other!
